Story Objective:  All of us have a protective armor placed around us by a loving God.  This armor is placed around us to protect us from things that are not Godly.  The children will learn from this Children’s Sermon to use God’s Armor in their everyday life.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-17 – Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

God’s Armor Story Outline

In ancient times, soldiers would wear very heavy armor.  In fact, David could hardly wear the armor when fighting Goliath because it was too heavy!  Nowadays, soldiers don’t have to wear armor, but did you know as children of God, we wear armor every day?

You can’t see the armor but it’s there.  This armor is almost like having superpowers that are invisible! How cool is that?

But, how can you wear it?  Well, you have to use your imagination.  When you imagine yourself putting on the armor of God each day, it will help you stand against all the bad things that might come your way; and it will help you do things that are pleasing to God.

There are several pieces to God’s armor.  The first piece is the Belt of Truth.  When we put this on, we remember to be truthful and we remember that God is truth.  We can also find truth by reading the Bible or by listening to God’s spirit in our hearts.

Next, we have the Breastplate of Righteousness.  If you have ever seen a baseball catcher, you probably noticed that they wear something that protects the part between their neck and tummy.  This piece also protects your heart.  We can protect our heart by confessing any sin we have or saying sorry to God for things we’ve done wrong.

The Sandals of Peace are next.  Have you ever walked over jagged rocks with no shoes on?  Our feet would get very sore!  It is important that we avoid walking in places that will harm us.  This is why we wear the protective sandals of peace.  Also, we need to be peaceful with others.  Is there someone you are fighting with?  Have you hurt someone’s feelings?  If so, it is important to ask them for forgiveness.

The next piece of armor you hold instead of wearing.  It’s the Shield of Faith. Just think of what you could do with a real shield.  If someone throws a rock at you, you can lift the shield so it doesn’t hit you at all.  We can use the shield in the same way when bad things come our way like temptations or doubt.

The Helmet of Salvation is the next piece.  This protects our minds.  Sometimes we need to remember that we belong to God and He loves us and will help us.  We also need to remember what we’ve read in the Bible, learned from our parents and church about God.  That will help us make the right decisions.

The next piece of armor that we hold is the Sword of the Spirit.  The sword is the Bible and having the Spirit of God work in us.  We can cut anything off that isn’t good in our lives.  And by remembering God’s words in the Bible, we will be able to tell what is good and what is bad.

Prayer is the last piece of armor.  This holds all our armor together.  By talking to God we can do amazing things.  Nothing is too big or impossible with prayer because God can do anything that He wants to.  That doesn’t mean that he will always answer the way we want him to, but he will answer the way He knows is best. A good way to help you remember the armor is to put it on each day when you get out of bed, or before you go to school.  Pray that God will help you remember that the armor is there and what it’s used for so you can fight the bad with good.
