CHILDREN’S SERMON JOSHUA 1:9
WHERE GOD PITCHES HIS TENT
Objective: To show children that our Lord is with us, leading us and guiding us.
Materials: A tent, or if unavailable, a sleeping bag and pillow.
Scripture: Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Look what I brought with me this morning! It’s my camping tent! I just love camping. It’s so much fun to go out in the woods and sleep under the stars.
Have any of you ever been camping?
What’s your favorite part? Roasting hot dogs or marshmallows over a campfire? Telling stories? Snuggling up in your sleeping bag and listening to the crickets?
There are so many great things about camping.
Camping is fun for a night or two… maybe even for a week… but can you imagine camping for 40 years? That’s a really, really long time!
That’s how long the Israelites traveled and camped through the desert after they left Egypt before they got the Promised Land. 40 years of camping in the desert.
But you want to know something cool?
While all of his people were staying in tents, God came down and stayed in a tent, too. It was called the Tabernacle.
It was a special tent, just for God! And while he was in this tent, he continued to show the Israelites where to go, reminding them that he was in charge, and he would always lead them the right way.
God has given us a promise that he still dwells among us. He is with us wherever we go, leading us and guiding us, just like he did with the Israelites.
Isn’t that a great feeling? That if you’re on the bus going to school, or at home eating dinner with your family… or even if you go camping! God will be with you wherever you go.
Where ever you are that is where God pitches His tent.
