Children’s Sermon Luke 11 – The Light Within

Children’s Sermon Luke 11 – The Light Within

For this lesson, you will need a flashlight and a way to cover it completely.

Ask the children to come to the front of the church.

Cover up your light and ask the children if it is on or not? Tell the children that there is no way to know for sure.

Now take the cover off and turn the light on. Ask the children if it is on or off?

Tell the children that we are sometimes like the covered light. We may have a talent that would “shine” but we are never encouraged to do so.

Tell the story of a little boy who loved to write. He would write the most wonderful stories and would ask his friends if he could share his stories with them. They never wanted him to do so and he quit writing. His light did not shine, the cover was never taken off.

Tell another story. There was a little boy who loved to write. He wrote amazing stories. When he would ask his friends if he could share the stories with them his friends said they would love to read the stories. After reading them they would brag and tell him how good his stories were.

The cover was taken off his light and it shined. The first boy never told stories again. The second boy went on to write children’s books and share his stories with children all around the world.

Tell the boys and girls we can either encourage our friends to do bigger and better things or put a cover on their light and discourage them. We can either make fun of others or help them to succeed.

They have to realize that Jesus wants Christians to shine like an uncovered light and share their talents with the world. He also wants all Christians to encourage each other.

Read Luke 11:33-36.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, Let me encourage others to let their light shine.
