Children’s Sermon Matthew 19:13-14 – God’s Love

Have the children come to the front of the church. Read Matthew 19:13-14

13 Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Ask the children think of someone they like. Tell the children that we there is a difference between like, and love. Love is reserved for those people with whom we are very close. They might include very good friends, family, grandparents, and parents.

Now have the children think of several people they love. You might want to let the children tell who they love. You might even want to tell who you love.

Share these thoughts about “like” and “love”. When we like someone we are friends with them. When we love someone we form a very special bond with them.

God is like this, His love for you is forever and ever. He is your Father in heaven and we are His children on earth.

We all know how much parents and grandparents love us……. God loves us even more! He even loves each one of us so much that He sent His own Son to earth for us. God is like a good father on earth, He knows what to give us and when to give it.

That is a great example of His love for us.

Say this prayer:

Dear God, I love you, thank you for loving me! Amen
