Spreading God’s Word: A Pumpkin Story

Fall Holiday Lesson for Children

Scripture: Mark 16:15 – “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”

This is a short lesson using a pumpkin.

Have the children come to the front of the church. Have a pumpkin with the top carved where the children can see into the pumpkin.

Ask the children that they see inside. One of the first answers should be “seeds”. After this ask the children how many pumpkins you have with you?

The answer will be “one”. Now tell the children that this one pumpkin can make a hundred, or more, others.

The seeds inside this one pumpkin only need to be planted to grow many, many more. Compare the pumpkin seeds with spreading the word of God.

One person can tell another about God and Jesus and then another and so on…………… You see we can help spread the word about Jesus around the world, one (seed) person at a time.

Spreading God’s Word Fall Holiday Prayer:

Dear God, Help me plant the word of God in my garden and watch it grow. Amen

Give each child two or three dried pumpkin seeds to plant next summer.
