Materials: a boxed gadget, appliance, or product assembly that comes with a manual.

Story Outline

Boys and girls! Boys and girls come and look over here! I have to show you something! Come and help me unbox this thing!

Everyone all here? All comfy and paying attention? Okay. Let’s open this and see!

(Unpack your illustrative materials. Lay them out one by one. Hold up the manual. Browse through it. Get some thoughts about your item: what it is, its purpose, how to use and care for it, how to set it up, etc. Finally, ask about the manual.)

So, anybody know what this paper is all about? Like, can I just ignore this or throw it away? Well, there are stuff that are quite easy to figure out. But some things need a manual to help us assemble (put together) correctly and operate (use) safely. A manual is a guide that helps people build and use things. For the not-so-simple items, it’s important that we learn and follow what the manual says. Because if we don’t, we will probably wreck the machine or put together a furniture, like a cabinet, wrongly. Think: What will happen if I don’t know how to make a cabinet and it turns out wobbly?

You know, boys and girls, we also have our own personal manual. God has given to every child a special manual. (Hold up the Bible). It is the Bible, the very words of God! The Bible is filled with instructions that help us live and do right. The Bible helps keep us out of danger and helps us avoid wrong things. God’s Word helps us figure life out as we grow and go through life. As we learn Bible truths, the Bible teaches us what is true and helps us realize the wrong things we do and have in our lives. When we learn from God’s Word, it corrects us and teaches us to do what is right.

From God’s Word we learn about how to make and choose friends. We also learn the right things to do as children who please God and our parents. In the pages of God’s Word, we find that children should obey their parents. We learn from God’s Word that it is wrong to lie to people. God’s Word teaches us much more and as we follow what God’s Word says, we bring a smile to God’s heart and to our parents’ too. When we learn and follow God’s Word, we stay on the right road and we live the right way.

Remember to keep learning and following your special manual. (Hold up the Bible again.) Listen well whenever people like your pastor, teacher, and parents, share God’s Words to you. Also make time to read your own Bible or have an easy book that talks about the Bible. (At this time, you may encourage children to ask their parents for an easy-to-read version of the Bible and an easy-to-read devotional). Remember, you need the Bible to know the right things to do and live by. So, keep reading, learning, and obeying it!

Prayer: Dear Lord:  Please help me to read, learn, understand and obey Your word contained in the bible.
