Scripture:

Ephesians 3:18 “How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ”

Materials: Assorted loved or cherished items. (Examples below: a piece of fruit, a t-shirt, a favorite book)

Story Outline:

Hi, boys and girls? Can you see the things I have next to me up here? This morning, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite things!

First, I brought this in. Can you see it? Yes! It’s an apple! But it’s not just any apple. It’s a Golden Delicious apple. That’s my favorite kind of apple. I just love Golden Delicious apples!

(Make sure to emphasize the word love.)

I’m going to keep this here until after the church service for a special snack.

Let’s see what else I have. Oh, I’m so excited to show you this! This is my favorite t-shirt! It’s blue, which is my favorite color, and it’s so soft because I have worn it many times. I just love this shirt! I love wearing it. In fact, I think I’ll wear it later on today when I change my clothes!

Here’s the last thing I have to show you. It’s my favorite book! It’s a very old book that I have had for a long time. Can you see the cover? It’s called The Boxcar Children. Have any of you ever read this book? Oh, I just love this book! I love reading it over and over.

Now that I have shown you my favorite things, I wanted to tell you about some of God’s favorite things. Do you know what God’s favorite things are?

US!

We are God’s favorite things!

But God’s love for us is not like my love for apples or blue t-shirts or The Boxcar Children. God’s love for us is bigger than we could ever imagine!

In the Bible, the book of Ephesians (Ephesians 3:18) tells us the God’s love for us is so wide (spread arms wide) and long and high (reach arms as high as you can) and deep that it surpasses all of our knowledge. That’s a lot of love!

Let’s pray to God, and thank him for loving us, and taking care of us as his favorite things.
