Materials: Several pictures of faces (pictures may be of all sizes, though the larger the better). Some pictures should be of people children would recognize – famous people, the President, their parents, or other people at church. Pictures should show different ethnicities or represent people from different parts of the world; a children’s Bible with a short story of Adam and Eve.
NOTE: When telling this story, you may read the short version of man’s fall from the Bible or simply follow this script and paraphrase, using the Bible for its pictures.
In the beginning, when God created the world, he made Adam and Eve the first people (show picture from the story Bible). He spent a lot of time with them and loved them very much. But Adam and Eve made a big mistake; they chose not to obey God.
Because of their mistake, sin entered the world and everyone that came after them (begin showing the pictures of people) had a hard time making good choices and following God’s rules.
But even though Adam and Even made that big mistake, God still loved them. In fact, God loved them so much that He didn’t want to be separated from them. So He came up with a plan to make sure everyone would get to be with Him in heaven.
And I mean EVERYONE (show more pictures of faces).
Do you know what His plan was? (Allow time for children to respond).
His plan was that He sent Jesus to earth as a baby. Jesus grew up just like you – he played, his did chores, he went to church, he loved his family. But, unlike you and me, Jesus never did anything wrong. He never made a mistake. He never even THOUGHT about making a bad choice.
Although Jesus was a person, he was also God – a special part of God.
When Jesus became grown, he chose to die on the cross for us. This was part of God’s great plan.
Because Jesus chose to do that, we can now be close to God, to be his children. And God made up this whole plan because He loves us.
Just like our verse for today, John 3:16 says:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
When we ask Jesus into our heart, his sacrifice on the cross brings us closer to God, and we can be His friend forever!
Lord, thank you for coming up with a plan to save us. Thank you for loving us so much! Jesus, I want to ask you into my heart. I’m sorry for my mistakes. I know you came to take them away. I want to be your friend and ask that you come into my heart to live forever. Thank you for helping us and loving us so much. Amen.
