Scripture:

Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I’ll say it again: Rejoice!

Materials: A party hat, and noisemakers

Story Outline:

(Leader wears a party hat, and passes out noisemakers to children.)

I’m so glad you came up here today! I wanted someone to celebrate with! Everyone sound your noisemakers!

(Give kids a moment to make some noise—they will want to try out the noisemakers right away!)

See my party hat? And these party noisemakers? Why do you think I have these here today?

Do you think it’s my birthday? No, today is not my birthday. A holiday? I don’t think so. So why is today special?

God tells us that every day is special!

In the book of Philippians (4:4) he says, “Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again, rejoice!”

He doesn’t say rejoice and celebrate on your birthday, or just on holidays, or just when something happy or fun happens… he tells us to rejoice and celebrate always.

This means that we should rejoice even on boring days. We should rejoice even on days where things are not going our way. We should rejoice in the Lord always, because He has loved us, and provided for us, and protected us, and promised to be with us. And it’s a pretty amazing gift that He gives us, every single day. And that’s why, every single day, we have a reason to rejoice.

So let’s celebrate! Sound your noisemakers on the count of three…

1… 2… 3… !!! (Let them make noise until it dies down.)
