Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.

Sometimes you might hear your parents talk about who you hang out with.  Sometimes they tell you that they don’t want you to hang out with someone.  It’s kind of hard to understand that sometimes, isn’t it?

Well, the Bible says that it actually does matter who we hang out with.  Blessed is the one that does not walk with the wicked.  What does that mean?

Why do you suppose that it matters who we hang out with?  Do they influence us from time to time?  Do we sometimes follow the crowd when we shouldn’t?

When we hang out with the wrong people we sometimes start to think like them.  We start to think that some things are okay when they are not okay.

God knows this.  Our parents know this.  That is why we are warned not to hang out with the wrong crowd.

Did you know that even adults have to think about this?

Grown-ups can get into trouble for hanging out with the wrong people too.  Sometimes a grown-up can get into a lot of trouble for what their friends do.

For example, if Julie is driving a car and her friend robs a store, Julie can get into trouble with the police for driving the car. As you can see, It is important to think about who you are hanging out with.

Talk About It!

Tell about a time that your friends tried to get you to do something that you didn’t want to do.

Tell about a time that your friends talked you out of doing something questionable.

Final Thought for Watch Your Step:

If friends can influence us to do bad things, they can also influence us to do good things.  Hanging around with the right people is just as important as avoiding the wrong people.

We want to find people that are good people and will help us make good decisions and influence us to do good things.

Remember to Watch Your Step

In Jesus name, Amen
