Materials: A colorful, hand-drawn picture of a sunny day scene.
Psalm 118:24 “This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!”
Good morning, boys and girls! I’m so happy to see you this morning on such a beautiful day!
I can’t wait to show you what I brought with me this morning.
(Take out a picture of a beautiful day, and hold up to show to the kids.)
Can you all see this? What can you see?
The sun, yes. A tree. Some beautiful green grass?
Yes! I drew this picture all by myself! It’s a picture of a beautiful, sunny day, and I’m very proud of it!
Have you ever drawn a picture that you were very proud of? Have you ever drawn a picture and given it to someone else, like your mom, or your dad, or a teacher?
What did they do when you gave it to them? Were they happy? Did they tell you they liked it? Did they thank you?
Yes, it’s great to do all of those things, and I bet it felt good to you, too, because you made it just for them.
There is someone I know who is a very, very beautiful artist. He makes bright, colorful flowers, and blue, sparkling lakes and tall, strong trees.
Do you know who that artist is?
That’s right! It’s our God! And just like I drew a picture of a beautiful day, our God creates each beautiful day that we live in just for you and me. Isn’t that amazing?
So if God made each beautiful day as a gift for us, what could we do to receive it?
Think about what your parents or friends or teachers do when you draw a picture for them. That’s right!
We can be happy and glad, and we can tell God how much we love the day he has created and thank him for it! Doesn’t that sound like a great way to start each day?
Let’s pray to God, and thank Him for this day.
This is a day that you have made. We want to rejoice and be glad in it, and thank you for the gift of another day to live in. You are a beautiful artist, and it makes us so happy to look at all the beautiful things you have made. Amen.
Yes, this is the day the Lord has made.
